Communication Strategy:
What am I trying to achieve with this?
- Create a better awareness about domestic violence in North America
- Propose ideas of how domestic violence can be prevented
What is my message?
- Domestic violence still happens in this day and age, and that no person should has the right to control another in any way.
Who I'm trying to target message to (be specific):
- Female victims, so they understand how they should be treated by their partners
- Male abusers, so they learn that their behavior is not acceptable
What is my audience/target demographic?
- North American
- 15-25
- Mostly female victims
What media is the best way to reach them?
- Television shows
- Movies
- Youtube
- Discussion forums (facebook, etc)
- School newspapers
What messages I am putting out?
- Domestic abuse is very common
- Domestic violence can be prevented
- There needs to be more awareness and education to the public
What change am I trying to bring out?
- Decrease the amount of domestic violence
- Create a higher level of awareness in the teen community
What are the influences I want to bring?
- Change people’s views towards how to treat one another by depicting the harsh reality of domestic violence
- We want to make people more aware by showing the ignorance of how people do not take much action towards the abuse
- Get people to understand the stages of the Domestic Violence Cycle, and how to break free of that cycle.
Marketing - the way you do it
Objectives - Youtube Video: receive at least 1000 hits - Facebook Group: Get 250 members to join - Twitter Group: Get 200 members to join - Posters: Put up 10 poster at UTM, and 10 at Sheridan
Goals
- Help women achieve higher levels of confidence, so that they do not need to rely on a partner who treats them poorly
- Spread awareness about the reality of domestic violence in today’s society
Audience
- Young adults ages 15-25
- UTM and Sheridan students
Key Message
- Emotional and psychological are equally, if not more damaging long-term than physical violence
- NEVER under any circumstances is it acceptable to use any sort of physical violence to control a partner
- Though it may feel impossible to escape an abusive relationship, there is always a way out
Strategy
- We will be giving viewers a look into the harsh reality of domestic violence. We hope to show victims that they are not alone, and that there is a way out.
- We also hope to better inform the general public on the issue.
Tactics - Short Youtube video: we will create a short yet catchy and effective 30 second “commercial”. This clip with inform bring attention to this issue. - Poster: we will design a poster that brings awareness to the issue, educates the viewer with a couple statistics, and provides information on where victims can get help - Facebook Group: we will create a facebook group where any facebook member can join, and talk about the issue. - Twitter Group: same function as the facebook group; just another social networking website so we can involve more people.
Measurement
- Educate at least 400 UTM or Sheridan students through the facebook group, twitter group, youtube video, and posters.
